Vivekananda Law College, Puttur, Dakshina Kannada

32nd Annual Day Celebration

The 32nd Annual Day of Vivekananda Law College was celebrated at Vivekananda Law College on 19/09/2022.

On this special day, Prof. Dr. C Basavaraju Vice Chancellor of Karnataka State Law University was the chief guest of the programme. He said that we are living in a state of dichotomy between vice and virtues, good and bad, justice and injustice. A very few people in our civilized world have concern towards society. Law students have a major responsibility of using their knowledge about law, their argumentative skills for getting justice for poor and needy people and make the world a better place for upcoming generation.

Justice Krishna Bhat, Former Judge of the High Court of Karnataka speaking about the genesis of law said that India has the tradition of respecting laws conveyed through the positive words like “Satyam vada Dharmam chara”. Laws, Samhithas of Ancient India guided encouraged good deeds. Respect to fair section of the society was given by calling woman as “Matru Devobhava” a unique part of divinity. Unfortunately, language of today’s law is in the negative term. We impose rules and regulations and punishments are given when people break the law. It is because of the influence and attraction towards western thoughts and beliefs while making constitution. It’s appreciable if law students learn how to amalgamate the both approaches to give best to the society.

Dr.Kallada Prabhakar Bhat, President of Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha in his presidential address said that law has to be a positive and constructive social device for the welfare of the society. The legal system has lost its credibility for the weaker sections. It is therefore necessary that we should inject equal justice into legality and that can be done by only by dynamic and sensible advocates in the field of law.
