Human Rights Day was celebrated on 10/12/2021 at Vivekananda Law College. In the beginning of the programme tribute was offered to the Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Bipin Ravat, his wife and 11 others who died in a helicopter crash in the southern state of Tamilnadu.
Director of Legal studies Dr. B.K. Ravindra inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp and addressed the student community as a resource person. He explained Human Rights under the United Nations Charter. Explaining the legal provision of Human Rights under UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) and Human Rights Act 1993, he stressed the constitutional provisions with decided case laws where Human Rights were being violated .He said that Human Rights allow humans to live with dignity as Human Rights are inalienable. From the beginning to the end of human life, Human Rights are of the utmost importance to live a good life. He also gave information about the National and State Human Rights Commission which protects and safeguards the dignity of all human beings.
The college’s Human Rights Cell Coordinator Dr.Rekha K spoke first and in her introductory speech, Human Rights Committee Coordinator Dr.Rekha.K explained the origin and importance of Human Rights and outlined the activities of Human Rights Cell. Speaking on the importance of Human Rights for college students she said that Human Rights are the basic rights that belonged to every person in the world. The United Nations has internationally accepted Human Rights as civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. Human Rights are observed by the International Community every year on December 10. The legal provisions of Human Rights make every individual enjoy his life. Discrimination between the people can be removed by the legal provision and practice of Human Rights. Cooperation and brotherhood can be enhanced.
Principal of the college Smt. Akshatha AP presided over the programme and said that Human Rights are the most unique contribution to our lives. With it we will be able to live a dignified life. The Human Rights Commission, which has been set up at the National and State level, has a basic mission of safeguarding human rights from being violated and that everybody should be made aware of the importance of human rights today for the creation of welfare of society.
An exclusive wall magazine on Human Rights was released and students performed a skit related to Human Rights during the occasion.
Co-coordinators of the Human Rights Cell Dr. Rekha K, Miss. Sheetal, College teaching faculty Kaushik C, Miss Sri Raksha, Miss.Harinakshi, Smt Sandhya P.M, Director of Physical Education Naveen Kumar M.K, Computer Assistant Thilak T and Non-Teaching Staff and students were present. Student Abhijit Vibhas K welcomed the gathering and Navaneet D.K proposed vote of thanks.
