Vivekananda Law College in association with Legal Aid Cell organized a special talk On POCSO on 1/06/2023 at college auditorium.
Sri Shyam Prasad Kailar, Advocate, Chanakya Law Chambers, Puttur was the Resource Person.
Addressing the students Community, about the need to provide legal protection to children from sexual abuse and exploitation he said that the purpose of Protection of Children from Sexual abuse and Exploitation (POCSO) Act 2012 was enacted to protect children from crimes like sexual assault, sexual harassment and indecent acts. The act defines ‘child’ as any person below the age of 18 years. He said that the child’s physical health, emotional, intellectual and social development is prioritized and ensured at every stage.

Smt. Akshatha A P, the Principal, Vivekananda Law College presided over the function by pointing out she stated that in the year 2001, 31,677 cases of rape were reported, of which 3 percent were children sexual assault cases. Public awareness and public condemnation is now needed against such cases.
In this regard a social awareness march was conducted by the students of our college from the premises of Vivekananda Law College to Nehru Nagar, Puttur.
