Vivekananda Law College was founded at Puttur during the year 1988-89 in order to meet the growing need of the students seeking legal education in South Eastern areas of Dakshina Kannada District, Kodagu and other adjoining districts of Karnataka and the Kannada speaking Kasaragod area of Kerala State. It is also intended to make legal education available nearer home so that even the less fortunate sections of the people in the region might profit from this professional course of study.
Aims of the College
The objectives of Vivekananda Law College are – Enhancement of Legal knowledge by conducting workshops, Symposiums, Conference, Seminars, Orientation Programmes and Career Guidance. To conduct Legal Literacy Programmes and publish quarterly Law News and publish research oriented Journals, Law fests are also conducted to identify the talents of students for the effective functioning of law.

The founders believe that no education and professional or otherwise will be worth the name if the imparting of instruction in different branches of knowledge is not attended by a proper shaping of character. The college has its name ‘Vivekananda’ from whose life and work it derives its name inspiration and aims at high sense of discipline and character. The college also aims at a high standard of education by providing all the facilities needed by the students for completing their studies in a systematic way. The college has adopted ‘NyayenaDharyatheLokah’ in its motto which means “The structure of the world is kept in balance by justice”.
Vivekananda Law College apart from disseminating the knowledge of law, lays emphasis on a new concept ‘Nyayadhara’. A platform created to coach and train the students to appear for Judicial Exams and other Competitive Examinations.
Vivekananda Law College with the avowed intention of educating the rural students to write and speak in English has commenced ‘Communicative English Classes’ with no fee charged.

Vivekananda Law College is located at Nehru Nagar, Puttur, D.K. about 3 kms away from Puttur town along Mercara – Mangalore Highway. The campus where the Law College situated is in very ideal surroundings impressing everybody by its scenic beauty and vast stretches of greenery. Being free from the afflictions of city life, the campus is an ideal place for academic pursuits.
