Faculty Development Programme

A one day Faculty Development Programme on “Creative Teaching and Research in Legal Education” was organized at Vivekananda Law College, Puttur on 29/11/2024.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. K.M Krishna Bhat, Secretary, Vivekananda Vidhyavardhaka Sangha, Puttur. Sri Surendra Kini. G, president of Vivekananda Law College Governing Council presided over the programme. Sri Vijayanarayana K.M, Correspondent of Vivekananda Law College Governing Council, Dr. B.K.Ravindra , Director of Legal Studies were present.

Smt. Akshatha A.P, Principal of Vivekananda Law College welcomed the gathering. Sri.  Shusruth Sudheer Urva, Assistant Professor of Law rendered vote of thanks.

Inauguration was followed by Five different Technical Sessions.

Technical session 1:- Sri Krishna Mohan, JCI Trainer addressed the audience on the topic communication skills. In this skill enhancement session he said that a good communication is necessary for a better professional life. What do we consider as petty things like gesture and appearance also matters in the teaching profession along with presentation skills.

Technical session 2:- The Resource Person Dr. K.R. Aithal, Senior Professor of Law K.L.E University, Bangalore, spoke on the topic “Constitutional values”. Addressing the faculty members he said that the constitution and its underlying values form the supreme law of the land. The constitutional values are reflected in the entire constitution of India but its Preamble embodies the fundamental values and the philosophy on which the constitution is based. The constitution helps to serve as a set of principles, rules and procedures on which there is consensus.

 

Technical session 3:- Dr. Mandava Rama Krishna Prasad, Professor in Goa University addressed the audience on the topic “Outcome Based Education in Law”. He said that in the teaching profession what matters the most is humane quality among the teachers. With the advancement of technology and utilizing digital learning among the student community, the role of a teacher has drastically changed. Yet, the influence of a good teacher cannot be erased. Hence to meet the changing requirements, teachers should also experiment various teaching methodologies and should focus on developing the ability of their students to apply their learnt knowledge in the practical scenario.

 

Technical session 4:- Dr. B. S Patil, Senior Professor of Law in V.M Salgaocar college of Law Panaji, Goa, spoke on the topic “Practical Subject: Approach to Teaching and Assessment”. He said that Learning is not about instructions it should also involve construction. Each job demands specific skills so does the advocacy. Teaching is about internalizing students understanding of the subject. Classroom discipline teaches many things following set of rules helps to have order in the society. Individually we learn, collectively we learn more.

 

Technical session 5:- Dr. Vishwanath, Senior Professor of Law and Registrar of Karnataka University Dharwad spoke on the topic “Law teachers, Plagiarism Research and Challenges”. Quoting Yuval Noah Harari, he said that in a world deluged by irrelevant information clarity is power. The increased rate of plagiarism has created new problems between original and borrowed information. With the beginning of the A.I generated information the paper purchase industry has become global. Paper purchased over the internet, sites providing student assistance by publishing other people’s research papers, the students plagiarize them by submitting others work as their own. Hence facilitators have new challenges of guiding and monitoring the academic works the young learners.

 

Soon after the sessions, a valedictory function of a one day Faculty Development Programme on “Creative Teaching and Research in Legal Education” was held at Sujnana Deepika auditorium of Vivekananda Law College.

In his valedictory address, Dr. Mandava Rama Krishna Prasad, professor in Goa University said that In order to sensitize law teachers in effective learning, teaching thinking and writing by employing innovative methods this kind of faculty development programme is a very good initiative.
