Guest Lecture on the Law of the Sea was held at Vivekananda Law College on 05/08/2023. Our alumnus and practising Advocate from Mangalore , Dr. Pradeep M.D. was the Resource Person.
Addressing the gathering on the topic Law of the sea, he spoke about the provisions in law which deals with the act of crimes in the geographical jurisdiction of coastal states and the rights and duties among states in the use of laws in respect of sea. There are three zones like internal waters, territorial water and high sea. There are many customary laws regarding law of the sea such as convention on the high laws, 1962, convention on the territorial sea and the contagious zone, 1964. Highlighting the general rule of the law of the sea Dr. Pradeep said that the ships in the high sea are governed according to the International law and the law of flag states.
