Inauguration and Workshop of Legal Services Committee – 2021-22

Legal services committee for the academic year 2021-22 was inaugurated at Vivekananda Law College campus on Saturday. In association with Karnataka State legal services authority, Vivekananda Law organized the programme in collaboration with district legal services authority as well as Dakshina Kannada and Taluk legal services committee.

Inaugurating the legal services committee and workshop , Sri M. Ramesh, Principal senior Civil Judge ,ACJM ,and chairman of Taluk Legal services committee said that law students as paralegal volunteers have privilege to work for the society by giving legal care and free legal aid to the general public through creating an awareness about existing laws that will give legal remedies to many unsolved issues of women and children. He said that the Karnataka Legal Services Authority and the Legal Services Committee today is working strongly in this regard. He also said that every student should use the guidance of their parents and mentors properly, using illustrations and parables to live a good life without falling victim to external attractions.

Sri Arun Kumar G, who was the Chief Guest of the programme and was a member of the Taluk Legal Services Committee, Puttur, said that creating legal awareness is the need of the hour in the society where majority of citizens are ignorant of existing laws which are useful for their day to day life.

Presiding over the programme, Director of Legal studies Dr. B.K. Ravindra said that, in addition to providing opportunities for students to differentiate themselves in society, we also work to inspire students to change society. Every member of the Legal Services Committee understands its importance and is responsible for the change in itself and society. He added that we are not only offering a Bachelor of Law degree in our college, but also providing students with value, culture and social perspective.

Sri Subramanyam Kolathaya and Sri M Ram Mohan Rao are among the senior advocates of Puttur and they were being felicitated during the occasion. Sridhar Prabhu, an advocate of the high court of Karnataka and a member of Karnataka Legal Services authority was also being honoured.

Formal programme was followed by a technical session. Sri Sridhar Prabhu , an advocate of the high court of Karnataka and a member of Karnataka Legal Services authority and Mahesh Kaje, advocate , Puttur were the resource persons.

Sri Sridhar Prabhu, an advocate of the high court of Karnataka and a member of Karnataka Legal Services authority, spoke on the topic “Role of Judiciary in creating Legal Awareness”. Sri Mahesh Kaje, advocate , spoke on the topic “Role of students in creating Legal Awareness”.

The programme ended with a valedictory function presided over by Sri Vishweshwara Bhat Bangaradka. Sri Sathish Rao , Vice President of Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Puttur was the chief guest. Addressing the gathering he said that we are living in a technology driven society and each and every student has access to legal information without much struggle. Being law graduates, it becomes a double responsibility of the students not only to understand law for oneself but also to give proper guidance to the needy people. He wished to have a legal aid clinic to be installed in the campus for the benefit of the society.

Vivekananda Law college correspondent Sri Vijayanaraya K.M, treasurer Sri Aravind and other governing council members, Alumni Association president Sri Shashidhar B.N were present in the programme. Smt. Akshatha A.P. Principal of welcomed the gathering. Law student Ms. Sourabha Bhat proposed a vote of thanks.
