Inauguration of the Endowment Lecture by Justice S Krishna Dixit on the eve of Constitution Day

First endowment lecture was inaugurated at Vivekananda Law College on Friday 25/11/2022 in view of Constitutional day. Karnataka high court Honourble Justice S Krishna Dixit inaugurated this endowment lecture that was arranged in memory of late M Rama Jois, Former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana and also Governor of Jharkhand and Bihar.

Speaking on the topic “Constitutional Adjudication and Judicial Legislation -scope” honourable Judge explained about legislative, executive and judiciary; the three organs of government and highlighted the importance of constitutional values while delivering justice. Law is another form of Dharma. When there is no law, justice should be given onthe grounds of reason, equity and good conscience.Landmark judgments can be considered as precedents.

Constitutional Adjudication is the process by which the superior courts are concerned with the constitutionality of any legislation or an action of an administrative agency. It includes resolution of disputes between different organs of the state. The aspiration to make power impersonal motivated ancient discussions about various types of possible constitutions but constitutionalism in the ancient world showed only the glimpse of the primary idea that later came to dominate constitutional theory.

Further he said that the constitution of India provides a shape for political, economic and social democracy. It manifests the dedication of it’s countrymen for asserting, ensuring and reaching the diverse countrywide desires without violence. Constitution is not simply a prison manuscript rather a legal document that guides the country to comprehend goals and aspirations of it’s citizens.

Interacting with studentsof law, heanswered to the questions and cleared the doubts of the students regarding constitutional values, judicial review, rule of law,and separation of power.

He unveiled the name board of memorial Moot Court Hall of Vivekananda Law College during the occasion that has been named after Late Sri. M Rama Jois, and remembered the impartial judgment given by Justice Rama Jois in landmark cases during his time as Justice.

In his presidential address Dr.Krishna Bhat, Secretary of Vivekananda Vidhyavardhaka Sangha(VVS) said that law students must take the privilege to spread the message of constitution .Special talks organized would be beneficial for the students to understand the application of constitution from legal perspective. Later he gave the brief history of the Institution and encouraged the students to take competitive examinations and judicial examination.

Principal Smt.Akshatha A P welcomed the gathering. Sri Lakshmikanth A Assistant Professor of Political Science emceed the programme. Sri. N. Jayaprakash , President of Adhivakta Parishad, Puttur proposed vote of thanks.

In the second session, there was an endowment lecture by Sri G.K. Parameshwara Jois, a senior advocate of Mangalore. Speaking on the topic “Law and Legal profession in India” he said that the profession of law is one of the oldest and noblestof professions. The person in the legal profession is called as an advocate. An advocate is an officer of justice and the friend of the court. An advocate also serves the public by giving advice by explaining the complicated and confusing provisions. He not only protects the fundamental and human rightsof citizens but also propagates it among them. He spoke about the advocate Act of 1961 during the occasion.

The Legal Profession has always been an important limb for administration of justice. Without a well organised profession of law the courts would not be in a position to administer justice effectively. A well organised system of judicial administration postulates a properly equipped an efficient Bar. An advocate assists the party by drafting legal documents he told during the occasion.
