Vivekananda Law College in association with Parent Teachers’ association organized two days’ Orientation Programme ‘Jyothirgamaya’ on 13/12/2021 in order to welcome the fresh batch of ILLB students for the academic year 2021-2022.
The commencement of the induction programme was graced by Sri. Vijayanarayana K.M, Correspondent, Sri Shivaram Sharma, President, PTA Vivekananda Law College, Dr. B. K. Ravindra, Director of Legal Studies, Mrs.Akshatha A. P., Principal Of Vivekananda Law College. Sri. Manish K Salian, Senior Legal Executive from Udupi was the resource person.
The orientation programme was inaugurated by Sri. Krishna Mohan P.S., Treasurer of Vivekananda English Medium School. He illuminated students about how college curriculum can enhance our soft skills and inculcate in students the requisite values for the legal field. He also advised students to focus on improving their language skill.
Sri Shivaram Sharma, President of Parent Teacher Association addressed the new batch and conveyed a message that learning is a never ending process. He urged the students to see moral values as an integral part of professional life. One does not need to be after material things because professional satisfaction is the outcome of honest and dedicated work. He told the students to inculcate the research skills in law which is an essential component and a vital requirement to be cohesive in and as a society.
The programme was followed by a technical session by B.K. Ravindra, Director of Legal Studies. Addressing the students he spoke on the topic “Career opportunities in law”and guided the students on aspects of life after law school and briefed them about the various career opportunities available after the graduation in law. Giving a detailed introduction on the various career options available, he asked the students to gain knowledge of legal fields in order to mold themselves to suit the required areas with vigour. He emphasized on the importance of mastering certain areas of specifications that need to be given utmost importance during the formative years.
Sri Vijayanarayana K.M., Correspondent , Governing Council of Vivekananda Law College addressed the students focusing on the vision and the mission and advised the students to give a fresh start to the legal studies by imbibing the value education given by the Institution. He also emphasized the importance of inculcating discipline, commitment, dedication and perseverance in the life of a law student to be a better professional in the future. Speaking about the uniqueness of professional courses, he said that legal education differs from other forms of learning; students should be well equipped with a definite goal. Emphasizing on the aspect of how old school legal education differed from the modern day legal education, how the development of law took place and the outlook of people from the two generations towards the legal field he asked to observe both law in theory and law in practice.
Addressing the students on the topic “Changing face of the legal profession in India in the era of Globaslization” Manish K. Salian highlighted the significance of all-round development by practicing critical thinking. He addressed the nuances of litigation and extensively spoke on the entrepreneur skills required in a law student. He stressed on making use of the unique opportunities and facilities that college is providing. He also emphasized the importance of research publications in building a resume for internships, placements and masters in law.
Principal Mrs. Akshatha A.P. introduced all teaching staff to the students along with introduction to all the committees they belong to. The conveners of the committees introduced the first year students to the activities of each committee and explained what they could expect from it and motivated and inspired them to take part in all co- curricular, extracurricular and cultural activities in order to unleash their hidden potentialities.
Over all, it was a successful programme, and newly oriented students seemed thankful and grateful for being inducted into Law College and highly enthused to begin their five year long journey.
