Orientation Programme for the Batch 2022-23

Day 1: 23/11/2022

A three days’ Orientation programme was held to welcome the fresh batch of IBALLB and ILLB students at Vivekananda Law College for the academic year 2022-2023 on 21/11/2021.The objective of this orientation programme was to give information about course structure, life and culture on campus, to impart legal knowledge to fresh batch and to bridge the gap between students and college. The aim was to introduce the basics of legal education to the students prior to the core law classes to assist the transition into Law College.

 

Sri Vijayanarayana K.M, Correspondent of Governing Council inaugurated the programme. Addressing the student community, he focused on the vision and the mission of college and advised the students to give a fresh start to the legal studies by imbibing the value education given by the Institution. He also emphasized the importance of inculcating discipline, commitment, dedication and perseverance in the life of a law student to be a better professional in the future. Speaking about ho professional courses said that legal education differs from other forms of learning; students should be well equipped with definite goal.

Sri Shivaram Sharma, President of Parent Teacher Association presided over the programme. In the presidential address, he urged the students to see moral values as an integral part of professional life. One does not need to be after material things because professional satisfaction is precious thing to cherish. He advised the students to focus on understanding fundamentals of the legal education as it is prime need to grow professionally.

 

 

 

Dr. B. K. Ravindra, Director of Legal Studies and Smt. Jyothi Rao, Secretary of Parent Teacher Association were present during the occasion.

Smt.Akshatha A. P, Principal of Vivekananda Law College welcomed the gathering. Smt. Subhashini J, Assistant Professor of Law proposed the vote of thanks. Smt. Sandhya P.M, Assistant Professor of English emceed the programme.

In the second session, Dr. B. K. Ravindra, Director of Legal Studies, spoke on the topic “Career opportunities in law”. He guided the students on aspect of life after law school and briefed them about the various career opportunities available after the graduation in law. Giving a detailed introduction on the various career options available, he asked the students to gain knowledge of legal fields in order to mould themselves to suit the required areas with vigour. He emphasized on the importance of mastering certain areas of specifications that need to be given utmost importance during the formative years.

Day 2: 22/11/2022

Assistant Professor of Law Sri. Koushik briefed the students about code of conduct of college. Explaining the rights, responsibilities and rules governing student conduct at college, he highlighted the importance of maintaining the highest standard of behaviour and discipline both inside and outside the college.

Assistant Professor of Law Smt. Sangeetha S M introduced the first year students to the activities of each committee and explained what they could expect from it and motivated and inspired them to take part in all co-curricular, extra-curricular and cultural activities in order to unleash their hidden potentialities.

Day 3: 23/11/2022

Sri Koushik , Assistant Professor of Law spoke about Moot Court which aims to equip and appraise the students in both presenting a case and preparing written submissions. He also stated about court etiquettes and discipline which must be well versed by the students. Further he said that mooting helps in the overall development of personality as an individual with proficiency over research and communication skill which is essential for a future lawyer and with regular participation in Moot Court competition, a student becomes familiar with the proceedings that take place generally in real courtrooms.

Sri Manish K Salian, Associate lead of legal and corporate affairs and also a Senior Legal Executive from Udupi was the resource person.

Addressing the students on the topic “Law vis a vis Corporate Sector” Sri Manish K. Salian highlighted the significance of all-round development by practicing critical thinking. He addressed the nuances of litigation and extensively spoke on the entrepreneur skills required in a law student. He stressed on making use of the unique opportunities and facilities that college is providing. He also emphasized the importance of research publications in building a resume for internships, placements and masters in law.

Over all, it was a successful programme, and newly oriented students seemed thankful and grateful for being inducted into Law College and highly enthused to begin their five year long journey.
